ABOUT US

WELCOME TO LOYOLA HIGHER SECONDARY ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL

The School is named after St. Ignatius of Loyola, a Saint born at Loyola in North Spain in 1491. He pursued a military career until 1521 when a cannonball injury changed his path. During recovery, he read “The Life of Christ” and “The Flower of the Saints”, inspiring him to seek a spiritual life.

Influenced by the lives of Saints Francis and Dominic, he spent a year in Manresa in prayer and service, writing the essence of the “Spiritual Exercises” and deepening his love for Christ.

Over eleven years, he studied in various cities and gathered companions to serve as missionaries. In 1540, Pope Paul III approved the Society of Jesus. Ignatius passed away in 1556.

Our Founder

Iñigo López de Loyola — better known as St. Ignatius of Loyola — was born in 1491 in the Basque region of Spain to minor nobility. The youngest of 13 children, Ignatius spent his formative years away from Loyola at court in the kingdom of Castile serving as page to the treasurer. He spent his days wooing women, fighting and gambling.
